Employment Opportunity: Recruitment and Retention Coordinator

The Calgary Kookaburras, with the Canada Summer Jobs Initiative, are looking for a Recruitment and Retention Coordinator for the summer of 2021. The employment term is 10 weeks, with a projected start date of June 28, 2021.

Overview:

The Recruitment and Retention Coordinator is primarily responsible for creating and implementing recruitment strategies to increase enrolment in women’s Australian Football in Calgary.

This will include, but is not limited to, creating and delivering advertisements, increasing social media presence, creating recruitment ideas and implementing them, and running a childcare program at the field while parents participate in sports.

  • Players and support staff within the Calgary Kookaburras and our affiliate men’s club, the Calgary Kangaroos

Task Profile:

The successful applicant will create social media posts and advertising based on their ideas on different recruitment strategies as well as working with ideas from the board with the target market being women. Most of the hours throughout the week will be dedicated to creating advertisements, brainstorming about different recruitment techniques and ideas, implementing those ideas, shooting videos/photos with the goal of increasing the number of female players at the club. This is an opportunity to gain experience working with a unique Calgary sports club, assisting in building our brand while also building your portfolio this summer. The interested candidate must have a strong sense of responsibility and ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision.

The other responsibility of the role is organizing and running childcare during practices and games. This is essential so mothers and caregivers can continue to play Australian football. The childcare program is separate from our AusKick (junior football) program. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working with children.

Key Selection Criteria

Mandatory

This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs initiative. This program provides wage subsidies to employers in order to create job opportunities for secondary and post-secondary students. Applicants must meet the following criteria to apply:

  • Was a full-time student in the previous academic year

  • Be planning on returning to school full time in the next academic year 

  • Aged between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive).

  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person whom refugee protection has been confirmed under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

  • Strong familiarity with a variety of social media programs and Google Drive

  • Previous experience working with children, in a recreational or leisure environment

  • Can supply a complete Calgary Police Service Police Information Check

Desired

  • Demonstrates initiative and ability to work effectively unsupervised or in a collaborative team environment

  • Well-developed verbal and non-verbal communication, interpersonal and presentation skills

  • Knowledge of new social media trends and how to maximize social media tools to reach our target audience

  • Experience in website design

  • Experience in videography and photography

Salary:

$15.20 per hour, with the opportunity to gain additional work at a higher wage available

Hours:

Expected hours are to be approximately 8 am-4 pm except on game and practice days. Game and practice days 10 am – 4 pm and 6 pm – 8 pm for a maximum of 35 hours a week. Arrangements can be made if the applicant has recruitment ideas that need to be implemented outside these hours.
