Employment Opportunity: Community Engagement Coordinator
The Calgary Kookaburras, with the help of the Canada Summer Jobs Initiative, are looking for a Community Engagement Coordinator for the summer of 2021. The employment term is 10 weeks, with a projected start date of June 28, 2021.
Overview of Role:
The Community Engagement Coordinator is primarily responsible for creating and implementing programs to increase enrolment in women’s Australian Football in Calgary, and to involve current players, their families, and members of the community in the Australian Football community.
The Community Engagement Coordinator will responsible for managing and delivering AusKick programs (junior Australian Football) on weeknight evenings.
Responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to, creating, delivering, and documenting in-person and online interactive programming for all ages, creating and piloting recruitment strategies, collaborating with sponsors and partners of the Calgary Kookaburras, and implementing a learn-to-play junior football program.

Task Profile:
The successful applicant will organize and coordinate different engaging activities and programs to get the greater Calgary community active in Australian football, with the target market being women. Most of the hours throughout the week will be dedicated to brainstorming and ideating multiple program ideas, implementing the ideas, and documenting the results with the goal of increasing the number of female players in the club. Program ideas include, but are not limited to, social media challenges, learn-to-play sessions, and scavenger hunts. The Community Engagement Coordinator will be someone who can think creatively how to get our community engaged in the sport, outside of coming to practice. The successful applicant will also deliver a junior football program that occurs at the same time as the Calgary Kookaburra practices, so that parents can remain involved in the sport as well. This is an opportunity to gain experience working with a unique Calgary sports club, assisting us in building our relationships with community members while building your portfolio for the summer. The interested candidate must have a strong sense of responsibility and be able to complete tasks with minimal supervision.

This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs initiative. This program provides wage subsidies to employers in order to create job opportunities for secondary and post-secondary students. Applicants must meet the following criteria to apply:
Was a full-time student in the previous academic year
Be planning on returning to school full time in the next academic year
Aged between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive).
Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person whom refugee protection has been confirmed under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
Experience in working with children in a recreational or sport environment
Strong familiarity with a variety of social media programs and Google Drive
Can supply a complete Calgary Police Service Police Information Check.
Desired
Demonstrates initiative and ability to work effectively unsupervised or in a team environment.
Willingness to think outside the box, brainstorm new recruitment ideas, and implement these novel programs
Experience in a coaching or mentoring role, with the ability to support a positive learning environment for new players
Well-developed verbal and non-verbal communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
Salary:
$15.20 per hour, with the opportunity to gain additional work at a higher wage available
Hours:
Expected hours are to be approximately 8 am-4 pm except on game and practice days. Game and practice days 10 am – 4 pm and 6 pm – 8 pm for a maximum of 35 hours a week. Arrangements can be made if the applicant has recruitment or program ideas that need to be implemented outside these scheduled hours.
